Day 1 - Guwahati to Shillong , Meghalaya

Your trip to the beautiful North Eastern India starts as you arrive at Guwahati Airport, Assam.

Guwahati is the largest metropolis in the north-east region of India. Situated on the banks of River Brahmaputra, it is said to be the "Gateway" of the North East Region. The city is surrounded by lush forests and several national parks including the Kaziranga National Park, Manas National Park and Orang National Park.

You will meet our representative at the airport who will assist you out of the airport and drive for about 3 hrs along a picturesque mountain road which will take you to Umiam Lake, 20 kms before Shillong Town to your retreat.

Day 2 - Shillong , Meghalaya to Cherrapunji

Today you will depart Cherrapunji which is about 60 kms away from Guwahati.

Cherrapunji now known by its historical name, Sohra, is popular for the large amount of rainfall it receives. In fact it is now considered as the second wettest place on the Earth, displaced from the number one position by its neighboring Mawnsynram.

Once at Cherrapunji you will trek to the Double Decker living root bridges - a remarkable and ancient form of bio engineering form where the roots of two trees on either side have been trained over a number of years to meet and form a bridge by the villagers during the ancient days which are unique to this region. The process takes 10–15 years and the bridges typically last hundreds of years, the oldest ones in use being over 500 years old.

Day 3 - Cherrapunji to Shillong , Meghalaya

Amidst some spectacular scenery of the little town of Cherrapunjee, you will take a detour to visit Mawlynnong (nominated as the cleanest village in Asia). Mawlynnong is a community based eco-tourism initiative On reaching the village one is immediately awe-struck by its cleanliness and aesthetic beauty. It is evident that the community has consciously made an effort to plan and maintain the ambience of the village. You can walk around in the village area and experience the rural life and experience a wonderful opportunity to interact with the local community and a delicious ethnic meal would be provided by the locals. On experiencing the wonderful rural life you will proceed to Shillong and if time permits you can experience some street shopping at the Shillong town area.

Day 4 - Shillong , Meghalaya to Kaziranga National Park

You will bud goodbye to Shillong and drive for about 7 hours along a picturesque route to Kaziranga National Park.

Kaziranga is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This 470 square kilometer national park has tall elephant grass and lush green flood plains, and is home to a rich variety of wildlife. Here you are likely to spot birds like Greater Adjutants, Bengal Floricans, Pallas’s Fish Eagles and Black-necked Storks. Kaziranga’s larger inhabitants include the Greater Asian One-horned Rhinoceros, Asian Elephant, Asiatic Water Buffalo and the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger.

Day 5 - Kaziranga National Park

The next two days will be action packed! You will leave early in the morning after an early breakfast for your first game drive into the ranges of Kaziranga. You will return to the lodge and relax till about lunch time. After lunch you will head out for a game drive into the park in open vehicles to explore the game. In the evening sit by the bonfire and enjoy a local cultural dance program and even try a few steps with the troop.

Day 6 - Kaziranga National Park

Another packed day in Kaziranga! Today also you will leave early in the morning to explore the wilderness of Kaziranga. You will get to go on an Elephant safari (approx 45 Min). Afterwards you will return to the resort for breakfast, and set out once again for a game drive in an open vehicle. Another game drive is scheduled for after lunch.

Day 7 - Kaziranga National Park to Nameri National Park

You bid bye to Kaziranga after breakfast and will drive for about 2 hours, to reach the Nameri National Park. The Nameri National Park is located at the foothills of the eastern Himalayas in Assam. It is best known for its high density of Elephants. Other than the Elephant, the park is also home to the Tiger, Leopard, Sambar Deer, Wild Dog, Hog Deer, Muntjac, Wild Boar, Sloth Bear, Himalayan Black Bear and Capped Langur. Nameri is a birdwatcher’s paradise and is a must visit for all ornithologists! The birds that can be seen here include the White Winged Wood Duck, four distinct species of Hornbill, Blue-bearded Bee-eater, Babbler and Plover.On arrival at Nameri, lunch will be served at the campsite and one can opt for a nature walk in the afternoon across the forests area or visit a tribal village.

Day 8 - Nameri National Park

Today you will go on a morning bird watching trek into the Nameri forest. You return to the campsite for breakfast and this will be followed by water rafting in the river Bhoreli in the afternoon. Relax by the bonfire in the evening and re wind the trip’s experience as tomorrow you will head back to Guwahati city and fly out onwards.

Day 9 - Nameri National Park to Guwahati

Today is the last day on your trip and after an early breakfast you will drive to Guwahati airport for about 5 hrs enroute farewell lunch and fly out to your onward destination.

Moderate - Requires a spirit of adventure and some degree of fitness, as the trip might consist of many activities or long journeys. These adventures involve walking, trekking, hiking, cycling, rafting, sea kayaking, or driving for long hours, at times for up to six to eight hours a day at a steady pace. The maximum altitude is 3000m, so it requires you to be reasonably physically fit. The trips are usually 6 to 12 days in duration.

The ‘Only Tigers’, a 11 day itinerary, is a perfect example of this activity level as it involves long journeys for up to eight hours a day and a bit of walking. Also, ‘Around Spitsbergen - Kvitøya and Beyond ’, a 10 day itinerary is another example of this trip activity level.

You should be reasonably fit because you will be travelling in extreme weather conditions.
Other Activity Levels
Basic - Designed for travellers who enjoy the outdoors, are in good health, and want an interesting yet relaxing wildlife experience. These trips may involve walking, trekking, hiking, cycling, rafting or sea kayaking at a very slow pace. Certain trips involve safari drives for a maximum of five hours a day. Most of these trips are usually a week long in duration.

The ‘Classic Yala Tour’, ‘Kenya Luxury’ and ‘Luxury in Botswana’ itineraries are the best examples of this activity level as you’ll have a relaxed holiday. These trips are mostly about culture and sightseeing. There will be exploring on foot and safaris drives involved as well. Most travellers will find themselves comfortable with the basic activity level trips.
High - Fitness is vital at this level, as the environment traversed may be remote and challenging. These rugged experiences include long walks, trekking, cycling or rafting in isolated areas through variable weather conditions for up to eight to ten hours a day. These trips are usually 13 to 19 days in duration.

The ‘Ultimate Nepal Trekker’, is a good example of this trip activity level as it involves hiking and trekking for up to eight hours a day. Maximum altitude will be 4000m and you need to be very fit in order to withstand the weather conditions. Also, ‘Kilimanjaro Trek- Rongai route’ is another example that applies to this this activity level. Good physical condition is essential and previous hill-walking experience or preparation is advisable.
Advanced - At this level, PlanetWildlife recommends previous experience of the activity involved. These are our most challenging and advanced expeditions. They include long walks, cycling, trekking, hiking or rafting in variable weather conditions for more than ten hours a day. These trips may often be over 3 weeks in duration.

The ‘South Atlantic Odyssey’, a 31-day itinerary, is a perfect example of this trip activity level as it involves sailing for long hours in extreme weather conditions. Also, the ‘Snow Leopard Experience’ itinerary is another example which best suits this activity level. Ascents and descents are over 1000m at altitudes up to 6000m and the climate can be rigorous and challenging. Excellent physical condition and previous mountain trekking experience or appropriate preparation is essential.
