Frequently Asked Questions

[expand all][collapse all]
What is an Accommodated Tour?

Our accommodated tours fill the gap between a camping experience and a more expensive lodge tour. The accommodation is mostly in National Park style chalets and bungalows. All nights on accommodation tours are in twin rooms (unless a single supplement has been booked). Some tours have dorm room accommodation.

What about camping tours?

On camping tours, you will be staying in large, 2-man canvas tents (with built-in mosquito nets). There’s plenty of room for your bags, and you will also get a foam mattress to ensure your comfort.
You will be putting up and taking down your own tent. Don’t worry; the design of our tents makes this very easy. We are sure that you will master it very quickly and even come to enjoy it as part of the tour experience!

How can I make a booking?

Please go to the How To Book section for booking instructions. You will generally need to pay a 25% non-refundable deposit at the time of booking to secure your seat.

What about visas?

You are responsible for your own visas and the validity of your passport. Please check your itinerary carefully to determine the type of visa that is required (single or multiple-entry). Your passport may have to be valid for at least 6 months beyond the departure date from a country.

You should also have at least 3-4 blank pages in your passport. Some countries will not allow you to enter without 2 blank passport pages. If you have more than one passport, use only one of them for your trip, so that all the visas are in one place.

Are there any age restrictions?

No. However, you must keep in mind that our tours require you to be fairly active. Therefore, you are expected to be in good health, reasonably fit and mobile.

Those under the age of 18 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian. Passengers over the age of 65 require a letter from their doctor stating that they are fit to travel.

Do you offer single occupancy accommodation and what is the cost?

Yes, we do offer single occupancy accommodation on certain tours at an additional cost. The cost is displayed on the itinerary page of those tours. In case the single occupancy rates of a tour have not been mentioned, please email us and we will provide you with the single occupancy rates for that tour, if available.

When will I receive my final tour instructions and tickets?

You will usually receive this material 2 weeks prior to departure. In the event of a delay, please contact your nearest PlanetWildlife office or send an email to travel@planetwildlife.com.

What is included in the cost of my PlanetWidlife Holiday?

Accommodation, meals, transport and tour guide services are usually included. Rest assured that there are absolutely no hidden costs. Any extra costs are clearly outlined in the trip itineraries. You can also contact us for more information.

What’s not included?

The tour cost does not include visas, vaccinations, items of a personal nature, alcohol, snacks and optional activities.

What about flights?

Our tour price does not include flights. However, flights that have to be taken during the course of the tour will be included in the tour costs. You will have to make your own arrangements to arrive and depart from the start and end points of your tour. Also, there may be cases where flights are not included due to other modes of transport like ferries or trains being used. This will be clearly stated as well.

If you would like us to book your flights before and after the tour, do get in touch with our tour staff, who will be happy to assist you.

Are meals always included in the tour price?

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are usually included in the tour price. The occasional meal or accommodation may not be included in the tour cost during certain times, such as when you are in transit. Any extra costs are clearly outlined in the trip itineraries. You can also contact us for more information.

How do I make a payment?

We currently accept all major debit/ credit cards. You can also pay us by electronic transfer. For more details, please go to the How To Book section.

When is the final payment due?

The final payment (including any surcharges where applicable) should be made no later than 60 days prior to departure.

Tell me about Local Payments.

The local payment is a cash portion of the tour payment that needs to be paid directly to your guide. This payment covers fluctuating expenses such as flights, national park fees, specific tour activities and so on. This ensures that we have sufficient hard currency on each tour.

Local Payment amounts are subject to change without notice. Changes are very rare, and normally occur if there is a sudden, unexpected price increase by a local service provider or National Park. The current instability of fuel prices means that a fuel surcharge may be levied as well.

Do I need Insurance?

Yes. Please ensure that your travel and medical insurance covers cancellation as well as the costs of being airlifted to a hospital. Good medical facilities are often a long way from where our tours travel.
Please note that medical insurance is compulsory. You will be asked for your policy number before being allowed to board the tour vehicle.

What vaccinations will I need?

Contact the destination country’s embassy or visit their official website for information on vaccinations that are mandatory. Please ensure that you have all the relevant vaccinations. Proof of inoculation is required on certain tours.

The World Health Organisation produces a useful report on ‘International Travel and Health’. This can be downloaded free from the WHO website.

What is your smoking policy on tours?

It is our endeavour to ensure that our customers enjoy their holidays in comfort. We therefore insist that smokers refrain from smoking in the presence of other group members and while observing wildlife. In addition, smoking in confined areas such as lounges, dining rooms, shared bedrooms and tour vehicles is not allowed. By signing our terms and conditions of booking, you agree to abide by these guidelines. Our tour leaders are empowered to dismiss any tour participant who fails to respect them.

What is the typical group size of a PlanetWidlife holiday?

Our tour groups average about 18 people, from all walks of life and of different nationalities. Some tour groups tend to be much smaller as well. However, regardless of group size, we make sure that your tour experience is safe, memorable and most importantly...fun!

What you must also remember is that our tour places tend to fill up rather quickly! So make sure that you book your seats well in time.
